A State Without a Budget, A Government Without a Clue

An extension of what passes for news from the 4LAKids blogs about the endless California Budget Crisis - as our Legislators+Governor struggle to do the one constitutionally mandated thing they must do every year by July 1. California hasn't had a budget where income and outgo match since July 17, 2007. Hopefully we will get a real budget and an improved budget process soon ...and this blog can expire in irrelevance! - smf

    CLUELESS IN SACRAMENTO

    CLUELESS IN SACRAMENTO

"When you travel around the world, you see the rest of the world building, building and building, and cranes everywhere. I want to see that in California, rather than Mickey Mousing around with all this nonsense and arguing about the budget. We can have a budget system in place so that we don't have to argue about the budget all the time. ... Then debate about the big things."

    SCHWARZENEGGER QUOTE 8/21/08

    • Bullet trains and cranes are big things?

    • The state budget and education are nonsense?

"There is no center," former state Senate Leader Don Perata (D-Oakland) said. "I'm not talking about political center. There is no action center, or moral center, or anything else left in Sacramento."

[For this reason] the budget challenge facing the state is not just about increasing taxes and cutting spending to cover a deficit. It is also about achieving this goal without further damaging basic infrastructure, [like meals for low-income children in public schools.]
